Mount Greylock
Massachusetts' Highest Peak

If you are lured to remarkable wilderness within a short drive of Elmartin Farm, you will enjoy "Berkshire
Living's" excellent article on Mount Greylock -- (link is below) . There are other info-links to Greylock further below the
Berkshire Living article link.
While "The Grey Eminence," by which Mount Greylock is often referred, does not exist within the Town
Limits of Cheshire, but the next town over, Adams, Greylock's presence "frames" perspectives from many different Berkshire
areas... however, none more dramatically that from Elmartin Farm. As the "crow flies," there is an unobstructed clear
view of the War Memorial Tower atop Greylock which is about 10 miles away. SEE MAPS
In 2009, Massachusetts opened the new and improved road to the summit. Compared to the previous road it
is a remarkable enhancement. However, the road is still a single lane up and down. IN SHORT: Don't go on Fall
weekends, especially if the weather is magnificent! You will be in traffic.
TIP: The Park closes at sunset. A great time scoot up to the summit is after 5 pm; catch the
sunset; and return.
CAUTION: The remaining daylight will get dark more quickly due to your descent and
loss of the available sunset. So, drivers with poor night-vision, make your climb somewhat earlier with a planned earlier
return; ditto for nervous drivers (you know who you are). Optionally, consider an early ascent with breakfast or lunch
at Bascom Lodge. Make a day of it!
